One of my most surprising birds of my 2003 Big Year was this Tundra Swan on Red Bluff Lake, 22 February.  I initially saw the bird from perhaps a mile away.  After driving to the other side of the lake and then walking about a mile, I was able to approach very close to it in a cove & photograph it thru rather tall vegetation along the water's edge.
