Jays stage extended irruptions in Texas every 10 years or so
(often longer), sticking around for a couple of years, and then
they go missing-in-action for a long period of time. One
such irruption started in fall of 2000, and lasted until, at least
the winter of 2002-2003 when I photographed the bird below - found
in the Davis Mountains on 6 January 2003.
