Crimson-collared Grosbeak is an endemic of northeast Mexico,
very rarely making an appearance in Texas. A striking
male showed up at the Frontera Audubon Society woods in Weslaco on
2 November 2004 and was seen by several folks thru 5 November.
This bird will likely be the ninth document record for Texas and
the first since 1988. I took a couple of difficult
photos on 4 November - the images are thru dense foliage though
still identifiable.
