Baird's Sparrows are considered review-list species
in Texas, though they it is likely that they are both regular
migrants as well as regular winter residents in the Trans-Pecos
region of the state. Howard Laidlaw and I were hoping
for a Baird's when we kicked up these 2 individuals a few miles
south of Marfa on RM 2810 on 22 November 2004. The first
bird flushed up on to the fence line and we subsequently found it
next to
another bird just ahead of us in the roadside grass.
It was not until we inspected our photos that we realized that both
birds (bottom photo) had been present on the fence line, along with
the more numerous Savannah Sparrows, when we initially found the
first Baird's. |
